A spokesperson from Balfour Beatty explained: ‘The resurfacing must be carried out under a complete road closure due to the nature of the surface we are laying. Hot Rolled Asphalt is a premium material, with a long life span. This reduces the whole life cost as it will require less ongoing maintenance than other materials. However, it uses side-by-side machinery, and so we have to close the road to lay it safely. Access to residences may be restricted while the machinery is either removing the old road surfacing, or laying the new one, but we would anticipate delays to be relatively short. Carers will be allowed access in a similar way. If there are specific times that carers are expected, if we can be told in advance we will try to accommodate.
Latest News – Change of Date for A438 Road Closure in Bartestree
Following the many concerns raised by parishioners, the Parish Council contacted our Ward Councillor Dave Greenow, who has worked very quickly and effectively to persuade Herefordshire Highways and Balfour Beatty to defer the resurfacing work on the A438 until the half-term week.
The closure will now take place Monday 29th October – Thursday 1st Nov incl. – 9am to 5pm
This is during half term week, so won’t impact the schools as much. It will also enable the Residents in Bartestree and Lugwardine extra time to accommodate the closures.
Waste collections will take place as far as possible, as in the letter already sent to residents and we’ll be sending an updated letter to residents. Emergency services will be given access through the roadworks if required.’
An amended letter will shortly be sent out to all parishioners.
